Home Again, Home Again, Jiggidy Jig

|
The pu clan have returned from our NorCal working vacation consisting of:
  • Ski week vacation in Tahoe
  • GDC convention and hob-nobbery
  • Freelance writing
  • Catching up with close friends
But no matter how much we enjoyed our trip (and we did!), there's no place like home. iPu cried the entire cab ride home (new tooth). Upon arrival, she re-explored the downstairs rooms, and climbed every surface, all the while exclaiming 'Oh!'. After dinner, Bpu and I hooked up the replacement for the RecalledDVDPlayer and caught a few minutes of her favorite movie to verify it worked. Cpu took a long-overdue bath, and I dorked out on the puter. Rock.

Home Improvement Hell

|
Upon signing the Deal and moving into sweet homeChicago, Cpu and I embarked on wholesale improvements to address the many shortcomings of our property.

Tale of the Cake Book Beat Poet

|
Bpu recently got a how-to book on making children's cakes. It has large colorful pictures of required ingredients and the finished product. It is enjoyable for her to read it to herself and to others. She gets a real patter going, what with the colors, shapes, and ingredients on each of the 38 pages.

  • Day 1: "Wow, a book of cakes! This is great! Daddy, I want to tell you what is in this one! There's frosting, and cake, and candles, and food dye! The next one has frosting, cake, food dye, and chocolate sprinkes. The next one has ..."
  • Day 2: "Mommy, have you seen my book of cakes? I can't find my book. I really need my book of cakes ..."
  • Day 3: "Daddy, I called you on the phone to tell you about my cakes! There's frosting, and cake, and candles, and food dye on this one! The next one has frosting, cake, food dye, and chocolate sprinkes. The next one has ..."

Encased Meats

|
This Saturday, we went to get paint samples and primer from a local paint store near Milwaukee and Addison. It was about 11:15 am when we left, but the fam was hungry.

Originally, we had planned on going to Target and then onwards to Hot Dougs for some fine encased meats and duck fat fries. Well, we switched up, guessing there was going to be a line at HotDougs.

Good move. There was already a line at 11:20 am. Game sausage of the week: Smoked Rattlesnake Sausage with Black Currant Mustard and Vodka Currant Cheese. Too many smackers for a grilled sausage, so Cpu and I opted for splitting Smoked Shrimp and Pork Sausage with Creamy Creole Mustard and Fontina Cheese, and a duck-bacon-blue-cheese one that is no longer listed on the web site. And duck-fat fries. Bpu went for a kid's meal of bagel dogs and tater tots. I had a nice ginger beer and they split an apple juice.

There was a pretty big Cubs pre-game crowd there, and we didn't see any outside dining, but some of our line-mates did disappear somewhere. Good times.

Sweet Home Chicago

|
Well, more like Oak Park. We closed the Deal; sellers missed some asbestos (they are fixing) but stole our window air-conditioners (debating). Bpu continues our tour of Chicago-land hot dog joints by approaching melt-down, which you can read all about.

Deal

|
We took the Deal on the house, and are awaiting inspections. If all goes well, we'll close mid May. Cpu has been very diligent with hunting down the best mortgage via the intertron and a broker. Bpu cannot wait to have a garden. After all, this Easter she did get a basket full of seeds and gardening tools. From the Target Easter Bunny, no less.

Not to jinx anything, but we penned our half of the signatures on the contract this Friday, April 13. Yeesh.

The Green Choo Choo

|

Is Bpu's new nickname for our green Subaru Forester.

Baby Is Here

|
iPu and Cpu doing ok. Baby is happy and healthy, nursing ok, awaiting results of GBS test. 7lb 14 oz. and 21 inches long, February 7, 11:17 pm.

Cpu's bag broke February 7th, 5:15 pm. Cpu contacted my inlaws, who were in the area working, and they came buy afterwards to watch Bpu. Early labor persisted until about 8:30 pm. Cpu was pretty active, talking, cooking through contraptions until about 8:00. Dinner, muffins, and a coleslaw salad were made during the day. Not to mention the Bpu needed tending.

I called Chicago doula at onset of active labor, about 8:30, and Cpu took a shower while I cleaned up the kitchen and dining room. Then we worked together on hypnosis. Cpu needed a lot of counter pressure, and believed that the baby needed turning. Unable to turn baby with positioning. Chicago doula arrived at 9:30 pm, and after about 15 minutes informed us that we should get to the birthing center. In between contraptions, we got Cpu's coat, hat, etc. on. It is very cold here right now. I split extra stuff with Chicago doula and put it all in the car.

The green choo choo did not start. Did I mention that it is cold out and my wife is in active labor?

The Next Baby Comes Soon

|
Yes, we are having another baby, Cpu is due at the end of this freaking month. We didn't have our baby yet, but she is due to arrive very soon.

Bpu Cuts Hair

|
It was bound to happen: after all, Daddy cuts his own hair.

After trimming Bpu's bangs, there was a quiet period. When I went to investigate, she had indeed cut some bangs and hair herself. Scissors are now kept in the closet.

Bpu On Ice

|
On the Saturday before New Year's eve, Bpu and I set out on foot to take the brown line to Millenium Park to do some ice skating.

My Old Home

|
Bpu calls our old San Francisco TIC "My old home". Say it with a sad tone and a pout to get the idea. This is the opposite of my new home.

Percy is a Girl Train

|
I spent a few evenings and one all-nighter hot-gluey-gluing a cardboard Percy the Tank Engine costume together for Bpu.

Recent Trip to Frisco

|
When I'm not working, I'm vacationing. And vacation means fracturing a friend's spine, and letting Bpu get mauled by our old neighbor dog.

The Great Outdoors

|
Bpu: Bye, goat. Have fun in the great outdoors.
Goat: ...

Apple Orchard

|
Bpu, Cpu, and our friends and their toddler went to a touristy lil apple orchard today. Bpu ate about 3 fresh donuts, clambered over some hay bales, fed some goats, checked out some pigs and ponies, and picked her first apple (a very crisp, sweet little Cortland). She also went mental about 1pm, so we split.

We picked up a nice pair 'o punkins for one smacker on the way back, refueled for about 0.80 smackers a gallon less than usual, and picked up an 8-piece Popeye's chicken dinner for a very late lunch. Bpu demolished the red beans and rice, which she bogarted from her mommie. When informed that the beans would make her stinky, she replied: "Just like daddy!".

She's not wrong.

The Crappiest

|
Bpu: "Oh, daddy, you are the crappiest."
Epu: "The crankiest?"
Bpu: "No, you are so crappy."

Trixie Trix

|
Cpu: "If the baby is a girl, should we name the baby Trixie?"
Bpu: "Yes."
Cpu: "What should her middle name be?"
Bpu: "Trix."
Cpu: "So her name should be Trixie Trix?"

Meerkat Manor

|
Bpu loves watching Meerkat Manor. I can barely remember how this was discovered.

If Manor is ever on at my parents', we are so there.

My New Home

|

I've moved just about everything from eta.org to here. Some people still read the slide-taking guide, apparently. The resume, it seems, is still a big hit with people looking for testers

If you were redirected here, please use the search feature in the upper right.

I spent about 60 minutes trying to figure out how to use Apache .htaccess rules to redirect you to anchored URLs like http://skull.piratehaven.org/~epu/#TheChroniclesOfAmber, but this is very difficult.

Incidentally, 'my new home' is also what Bpu calls our first Chicago rental apartment. This is the opposite of my old home.

Confusingly, in June of 2007, we all moved to sweet home Chicago, which is our new-new home.
