Ubuntu

Ubuntu is a Linux distro that focuses on ease of use. It's based on Debian GNU/Linux. There is an Ubuntu live CD and an Ubuntu install DVD. And, in a word, it's sweet. If you ever get the chance to install it, I highly recommend it. I think of it as the distro that intends to move tasks on Linux from very difficult to relatively easy.
It has bugs, which I report or 'me-too' when I find them.

Using the defaults, Ubuntu Breezy Badger didn't support both cores of the dual-core sexy Intel PentiumD 950. It took some fiddling to get both processors to be used, is all I'm saying.

The install DVDs are huge 4gb dvd .ISO images available for downloading and installing all of the distro. Running the installer will most likely remove your computer's regular operating system (back up your data!). Grab an .ISO image from the mirrors.

Another option to preview Ubunto is to use a live CD.
This is a self-booting CDROM with a complete running Ubuntu on it. Running the live CD doesn't hurt your computer's regular operating system (unless you want it to!). Grab an .ISO image from the mirrors.
